A Five Senses Poem

At the beach

As I inhale the air it is like I put a pinch of salt on my tongue.

It smells like a forest but instead of dirt its sand the smell relaxes me.

The clear water is amazing it's like a giant bowl of blue water that seems to go on forever.

The microscopic crystals flow in between my toes in a somewhat satisfying manner.

The roaring sound of the tide are enough to put me to sleep.

Hector's Dolphin

Hector's Dolphin

Hi there, my name is Skye and I LOVE dolphins! So that's why I wanted to teach you some facts about them. Enjoy!

First of all I wanted to clear that you will ONLY find them in New Zealand . So now that’s out of the way we can get on to the juicy facts . The Hector's dolphin is the smallest dolphin in the world, so it's pretty hard to see, thats why we need to know how to keep them safe. If you ever see one make sure to stop your boat and DO NOT speed off, also don't feed them and be careful with your fishing nets. I guess I’m just trying to say LEAVE THEM BE :). This species of dolphin is endangered so please try to follow these rules when you are fishing/boating. Hector's dolphins are one out of 4 special breeds, and you can find them in Akaroa. I hope you like my story and it inspires you to learn some more about native NZ species.

Studio Writing about Hector's Dolphin

                                   Hector's Dolphins

The Hector’s dolphin is the world’s smallest dolphin and is only 1.5m long. It only found in New Zealand waters and is unique to us. They can dive underwater and hold their breath for up to two minutes. Sadly sometimes they get caught in fishing nets and end up drowning.

When people are out fishing and they see a Hector’s dolphin they have to slow the boat down and don’t make a lot of noise. You are also recommended not to touch because they don’t appreciate it. If you see them on a boat don’t follow them for they hate it. You also have to be careful not to fuss over them as they can be violent.

Also don’t come to them, let them come to you. Don’t go up to them.
